20 Story High Rise Office Building

A new cooling tower delivered water to the fan coils of this building in Boston MA; however, the water that was delivered was five to eight degrees cooler than the old system. Because of this, the pipes began to sweat, creating a moisture problem in both the walls and fan coil units. This moisture caused mold to grow in and on the walls, coils, and on the insulation of the fan unit housing.

The remediation we performed included: establishing individual containments, creating a negative airflow, removed and safely transported over 50 fan coil housings, double bagged them, and brought them down to the containment basement where they were stripped for insulation. We cleaned and sanitized the remaining parts of the fan coil housings, and reinsulated them with closed-cell foam insulation.

The walls next to the fan housing units were also contaminated and needed to be removed. We cleaned and sanitized the walls and pipes, and reinsulated the pipes with cell foam.

During this mold remediation project, we coordinated with the facility manager, the facility staff, and the management company’s Industrial Hygienist and attorneys.
